At ASCEND, we are dedicated to promoting winter sports and addressing social issues through inclusive and accessible activities. Our mission is to create a supportive and inspiring environment for children with special needs, helping them to develop physical fitness, social skills, and self-confidence through sports.
Our initiatives in Katzrin are a shining example of our commitment to this mission. We have established a regular sports club for children with special needs, particularly those on the autism spectrum. These activities take place twice a week, offering engaging and inclusive sessions that foster teamwork and physical activity. On Tuesdays, sessions are held at the sports field of Beit Sefer Derachei Noam, and on Thursdays, they take place at the sports hall of Maccabi Katzrin, both starting at 16:00.
Our programs are designed to bring the joy and benefits of sports to all children, regardless of their abilities. We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to participate in sports, experience the thrill of physical activity, and enjoy the camaraderie that comes with being part of a team.
Our recent Independence Day event in Katzrin was a testament to our community engagement. Esteemed vice-presidents of ASCEND, Lev Genin and Alexander Uvarov, actively participated in the celebration. Lev Genin, a former professional USSR and Israeli ice hockey player and multiple World Championship participant, and Alexander Uvarov, a former Russian and Israeli football player, goalkeeper of the Russian National Team, and FIFA World Cup and Champions League participant, brought their vast experience and passion for sports to the event. Their involvement provided inspiration and guidance, making the event even more impactful.
The program is curated by our vice-president Dmitriy Sizonenko, who is the organizer of sports programs for children with autism and developmental disabilities. His expertise and dedication ensure that our activities are well-structured, inclusive, and beneficial for all participants.
Looking ahead, ASCEND plans to expand our activities to other cities across Israel, bringing our mission of accessible sports and positive change to more communities. We are committed to creating a network of inclusive sports programs that address social issues and promote the well-being of children with special needs throughout the country.
